Converge Construction: Bringing it all together

By: Fadeke Adegbuyi

Based in Mission, British Columbia, Converge Construction is making quite a name for itself in the commercial and residential construction industries. Founded in 2008, the company has already seen a substantial amount of growth and development since it has begun operations. Converge Construction is armed with a skilled team of industry professionals with years of experience in both commercial and residential building. As a team, they aim to achieve the very best for their clients. Each year in business has led to a succession of larger and more challenging projects. Their management team includes project managers William Vroom, Dwayne Vanderveen, and David Vandergaag. Jonathan Vanderpol, Director of Business Development says, “We’ve continued to expand our reach locally and across Western Canada.”

In terms of residential projects, Converge Construction builds approximately 6 custom houses per year. This commitment to building cutting-edge housing has allowed the firm to stay current with the latest design trends. Additionally, it has enabled them to become knowledgeable about the most environmentally friendly building methods. This has led to construction on homes in Langley, Mission, White Rock, and other local BC communities. The firm credits Willson Design Group, based in Abbotsford, BC, with developing the striking and innovative designs for their residential projects. An increasing number of residential clientele has occurred organically, with referrals being their predominant source of new business.

However, Converge Construction’s emphasis is on their commercial building side, where the vast majority of their marketing efforts are currently focused. The company has acquired many construction contracts throughout the province of British Columbia. Clients in BC have included Safeway, Subway, A& W, Quiznos, Wendy’s, Starbucks and many others. Their reach has also extended to Alberta and Saskatchewan. Current projects include Tim Hortons restaurants in Fort Nelson and Squamish, BC, Moose Jaw and Swift Current, SK, as well as a Boston Pizza in Lethbridge, AB. Converge Construction is also working on a concrete church building, a bank and various commercial tenant improvements. The company cites the recent completion of a four-building SmartCentre in Mission, BC as a point of pride.

“The project was close to home and our largest project – we also managed to finish that project early and under budget,” says Vanderpol. The project was completed in July 2013 and is attached to a Wal-Mart, providing residents with a convenient shopping destination.

Converge Construction’s motto of “bringing it all together,” perfectly sums up the way they conduct their business.  The company utilizes “construction management” to ensure that the “owner, architect, consultants, sub- trades, suppliers, and Converge” work together seamlessly and communicate effectively in order to deliver the best outcome possible.

Construction projects can be challenging, often riddled with tight deadlines and time-consuming details. Fortunately, the firm is detail-oriented and manages every portion of a project from start to finish with great care. Converge Construction ensures that challenges are dealt with accordingly and that the end result is satisfying to clients. The firm offers a variety of services including pre-construction services, general contracting, construction management, and design/build. Years of experience allows them to take on projects such as warehouse development, concrete tilt-up, tenant improvements, renovations, new construction and restorations.

“The quality and service we provide clients ensures their experience is second to none,” notes Vanderpol. Their commitment to building client trust is incorporated into every aspect of their operations and is carried out by over 30 capable employees that are experienced in project management, estimating, superintending, carpentry and skilled labour. This dedication has resulted in strong relationships based on “trust, integrity, and respect.” Converge Construction has built over 50 Tim Hortons across Canada and has formed a strong bond with the company. “Our largest driver of business is referrals and repeats. New clients are drawn to us because our work speaks for itself,” Vanderpol adds. With every project, Converge Construction seeks to exceed expectations and provide a positive experience for their clientele.

In terms of community involvement, Converge Construction is an active member of the local Chamber of Commerce. Additionally, they are proud to be affiliated with various construction associations such as The Greater Vancouver Home Builders’ Association, the Vancouver Regional Construction Association, and the National Home Warranty Program. Forming relationships with these associations and programs allows the firm to stay educated and informed through information and networking events. Additionally, these community connections provide a degree of accountability, as certain codes of ethics must be maintained.  Since these associations are all part of National organizations, Converge Construction is accredited and recognized all across Canada. When building in other provinces, Converge Construction utilizes their expertise in project management to coordinate local companies for building contracts.

“It’s good for the local community and economical for us,” says Vanderpol. The firm is heavily involved in the local church community and is presently building the Christ Covenant Church in Langley, BC. Converge Construction’s relationship with Tim Hortons also involves participation in events for the Tim Horton Children’s Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to providing a fun camp experiences for children from economically disadvantaged households.

Though 6 years in operation has yielded a great deal of growth and progression, Converge Construction has no plans to slow down anytime soon. With continuously growing clientele, an excellent business model, and the formation of outstanding relationships, the future of the firm is promising. Vanderpol says, “We plan on expanding our reach locally but also across Western Canada, we want to expand our client base and take on bigger challenges.”
