Digital Connectivity and Lighting Solutions that Safeguard the Environment
Technology and Products that Preserve and Protect the Environment
Calgary-based Independent Energy Solutions (IES) is a leading specialist in the manufacturing of tailor-made client solutions in wireless monitoring solution packages, air quality monitoring, instrumentation, and gas detection, and more. But what sets IES apart is technology and products that preserve and protect the environment.
Originally founded as a manufacturer of solar and electric light towers, IES has moved into a technological solutions-based company servicing the energy industry, pioneering the stadium light tower industry, for one. Business Elite Canada spoke with President Michael Doerksen about how a solutions-based strategy has created a winning approach for clients.
“The energy industry tends to operate in remote areas of Alberta and Northern British Columbia, and is constantly looking to utilize technology to better enhance the communication from field to Head Office, and to reduce their carbon footprint of their operations,” says Doerksen. “IES is uniquely designed to solve both of those problems, and have the personnel needed to solve any logistical challenge.”
IES offer electric and solar light towers, a one-of-a-kind stadium light tower, fluid and pressure monitoring systems, remote internet and communication systems, as well as installing solar arrays and remote security systems, all of which can be monitored by the end user using the real-time portal through IES’s website.
“By calling IES, you are calling a company that can provide low emission lighting on a site, mobile internet and telecommunication services, camera monitoring, and pressure and fluid monitoring. We are the one-stop-shop for digital connectivity and lighting solutions.”
IES benefits from the expertise of Clint Beisel, a master electrician who possesses extensive knowledge in digital communication and monitoring. “Having him with the company has allowed IES to transition into a solution-based business for the energy industry,” says Doerksen.
IES’s approach to stadium light towers illustrates its expertise. “Stadium towers are large light towers that run off large diesel power generators, are usually pretty large and awkward to position, and can take hours to set up,” explains Doerksen. IES partnered with All Choice Rentals to develop an intrinsically safe, mobile stadium light tower that can be brought so site, set up in a few minutes, and has the ability to easily move around to enhance lighting wherever the need may arise.
“With state-of-the-art lighting technology, it has the ability to illuminate a work site better than the competition and for this reason has been given the name Illuminati. The Illuminati Stadium Tower can run off a small gas generator if needed or plug into an onsite power source. It can also come equipped with monitoring options that are located on the top of the tower so off-site personnel can monitor site operations in real-time.”
The Illuminati increases light coverage on-site, increases efficiency of operation, and provides monitoring capabilities that adds a visual component to high priority operations.
“Having an online portal that can be specifically set up with different permission for different clients, IES is able to bring all their monitoring and camera feeds into that system, giving our clients real time updates during specific site operations,” says Doerksen. It is worth noting that none of this would be possible without the mobile internet connectivity, which is another area of expertise for IES.
IES was an early adopter of solar technology, and with most early adoption, it came with challenges. Those challenges have allowed IES to grow as a company due to a better understanding of the advancements and limitations of the solutions IES provide.
“The energy industry can require quick decision-making during stimulation operations, and by offering our clients in the field and in the office real time data, it helps them make the best decisions possible. We get the information to the people that need it, when they need it.”
“We understand that the world still needs energy, but we have to do it in a way that minimizes the impact on the environment,” says Doerksen. “Canada has always been the world leader when it comes to sustainable energy development, and we are proud of that fact, and want to continue to be a part of that.”
Born of a desire to change the way that industry looks at projects, IES proves that development and advancement don’t have to come at the expense of the environment. “We want to leave the Earth a better place than we found it, and we fully believe that the solutions that IES provides are helping make that a reality,” says Doerksen. “And knowing the limitation of our technology only drives us hard to keep pace with development so we can continue to do our part to make the Western Canada energy industry the most sustainable in the world.”
