Our feature story this month profiles Merit Alberta, the
“Open Shop” construction and advocacy branch of the
Merit Canada. The founding province in the organization,
Merit Alberta provides a necessary check and balance to
the unionised construction landscape. One of Merit Alber-
ta’s biggest advocacy issues is to ensure that all construc-
tion contracts are open to the free market and awarded
to the lowest responsible bidder through open and fair
competition, regardless of union or non-union affiliation. We spoke with President
Malcom D. Kirkland to learn how and why the Open Shop philosophy is good for all
Canadians.
Residents of the Ontario’s Halton region now have two new incredible hospitals that
are attracting international attention for being on time and on budget: the Alpha
and Omega of construction. Bill Bailey, who led the way on both projects, spoke with
Business Elite Canada about the key takeaways from these highly successful and
precedent-setting P3 projects.
We are proud to feature these and other stories of success from all corners of this
great country. Know of an entrepreneur doing big things? Please send us an email
about featuring them in our upcoming issue.
