Congebec’s ability to store a wider variety of products but also provides increased capacity to better serve customers across Canada. “It’s really about staying ahead of the game, staying ahead of the customers’ needs,” says Pedneault. “In our industry, you cannot wait for the customer to need you—you have to anticipate, you have to make sure that you have the ability to grow with them.” Pedneault explains that Congebec’s expansion has been guided by a clear understanding of where their services are most needed. “Each time we add a facility, it’s because we’ve listened to our customers and anticipated market demand. We strategically choose locations that allow us to best support LEADERSHIP AND COLLABORATION THAT DELIVER Much like an orchestra conductor, GKC acted as Lead Architect and Prime Consultant on the Congebec Mascouche project, leveraging its vast expertise and strategic mindset. “Refrigerated building projects require specialized project teams,” explains Milyausha Gabdrakhmanova, Project Director for GKC. “To ensure efficient execution, it was essential to involve the general contractor and subcontractors from the outset, and to ensure that everyone’s actions were aligned throughout the project delivery.” EFFICIENCY GKC drew on its extensive experience in industrial projects to facilitate a streamlined flow of goods between the loading docks and the cold storage chambers. The installation of 19-foot-high sliding doors that open and close quickly and the selection of insulation materials that significantly exceed industry standards helped minimize heat loss. SWING ROOM The project’s particular feature is the ‘swing’ room – a chamber that can be flipped from refrigerated to frozen and vice versa. This presented major challenges due to the constraints associated with temperature changes and contraction properties of materials. ‘It was like designing a building within a building,’ sums up Milyausha. “By collaborating closely and keeping the project objectives in mind, we were able to rise to the challenge.” www.gkc.ca (Photo Credit - Archimed Studio) 36 DEC 2024 | BUSINESS ELITE CANADA
