In the early 1900s, Canada’s first controlled flight took off from Baddeck Bay in Nova Scotia, setting the country on a
path of innovation and development in the aerospace sector.
Inside this issue of Business Elite Canada magazine, you’ll meet Jim Quick, the President and CEO of the Aerospace In-
dustries Association of Canada (AIAC). The organization serves as the national voice for Canada’s aerospace industry
and is working diligently to promote Canadian aerospace businesses in the foreign market. From the design and con-
struction of the Canadarm to serving as home to manufacturing giant Bombardier, our country has made significant
contributions to the industry. AIAC is committed to ensuring Canada’s place at the forefront of aerospace and space
development.
This month, we also highlight one of our favourite signs of spring — the announcement of Canada’s newest 50 Best
Managed Companies. Sponsored by Deloitte, CIBC, the National Post, Queen’s School of Business and MacKay CEO
Forums, the esteemed list recognizes businesses that are following a path built on success and sustainability. The
rigorous judging process looks at a number of criteria, including profitable growth, focused strategies, adaptability
and employee commitment. The final result is a list of Canadian businesses doing their part to drive the country’s
economy.
We’ve profiled several companies from the 2014 Best Managed list, and Minard’s Leisure World is one of them.
Founded in 2004 with a staff of five, the Saskatchewan-based company is now among the largest RV dealers in West-
ern Canada. Owner Susan Minard has combined a strong background in marketing with a true love for the RV lifestyle
to create an organization focused on customer service and future growth.
F. Menard is another company that made this year’s list. The Quebec-based, family-owned business is one of the
province’s largest pork producers and attributes much of its success to vertical integration. From the earliest stages
of genetics to the final steps in processing and distribution, F. Menard is able to guide and control the quality of their
products.
Finally, we’ve delved into the not-for-profit sector this issue, profiling an organization that is working to help children
worldwide achieve their full potential. The Christian Children’s Fund of Canada was listed among the Financial Post’s
top 25 charities in 2014, noted for their accountability, transparency and efficiency. The work they do is nothing short
of inspiring.
