Major construction at Rutherford GO Station is complete. The station upgrades bring better connections, improved access to transit and modern customer amenities.

It’s great news for commuters in Toronto, York Region, or Simcoe County—GO travel Lake Simcoe to Lake Ontario and everywhere in between just got a lot easier.
Major upgrades on the Rutherford GO Station are now complete. Located in Vaughan, Ontario, it is a stop on the Barrie line train service, supporting Ontario by bringing convenient, all-day, two-way GO train service.

The Rutherford GO Station is a vital piece of the larger GO Expansion program that will see 80 percent of residents live within two kilometres of rapid transit. Achieved through an estimated 1,200 kilometres of rapid transportation across the region, the GO Expansion project will transport over 28 million people a year by 2031.

Nitish Bissonauth, Spokesperson for Metrolinx, tells Business Elite Canada, “We’ve transformed Rutherford GO to expand on more train service in the future. The upgrades to Rutherford GO are part of the GO Expansion program, which will transform GO rail from a rush-hour service to a more frequent, two-way, all-day rapid transit experience on the Barrie GO Line.”

The entirely new and improved Rutherford GO station building is about 7,000 square feet with updated amenities including customer washrooms, digital displays, and spacious waiting areas, and is fully accessible with ramps, railings, and accessible washroom facilities. New connections for pedestrians and cyclists, improved train platforms, modern customer amenities, and more parking spaces are also complete.

“This work at Rutherford GO station will help to provide increased capacity on the Barrie GO line,” says Bissonauth. “This expansion will also provide new travel opportunities and enhanced connectivity to the regional rapid transit network, including to the future Eglinton Crosstown light rail transit route via Caledonia GO Station, and TTC’s Line 2 via a future new SmartTrack GO Station at Bloor-Lansdowne, both new station projects currently in development.”
