DAPHNE COCKWELL

Named in her honour, Daphne Cockwell was the

mother of Jack Cockwell, a major donor and member
of Ryerson’s Board of Governors. Jack’s mother was

a nurse who trained in South Africa in the 1930’s and
volunteered with veterans returning from World War

II. In 2008, Ryerson’s School of Nursing was renamed

the Daphne Cockwell School of Nursing, becoming
the first Canadian university nursing school named for

     a nurse.
