Plumbing and Pipefitting Industry
of the United States and Canada—
UA Canada for short, is Terry
Snooks. Terry comes from Toronto
Local 46, where he went from
being a Steamfitter-Pipefitter to
local union Business Agent and
then Business Manager. Terry
was successful as an Officer of the
local for 12 years because of his
unwavering commitment to the
training of his members.
In his new role as Director of
Canadian Affairs for UA Canada—
an organization that spends
$270 million dollars per year on
training its members across North
America—he continues that focus
on training by formally committing
to continued support for Skills
Compétences Canada. UA Canada
provides both major funding of
the program and boasts huge
participation by its members from
all locals. “We believe in the people
at Skills Compétences Canada and
support them across the country at
all our local unions.” Terry goes on
to say, “Trades workers have a very
bright future in Canada. They will
be able to achieve great things and a
better standard of living as a result
of their skills development.”
Skills Compétences Canada is a
major contributor to the success of
youth in Canada. They help show
the possibility of a bright future in
the trades to young people when
they are most in need of direction
and may be asking themselves what
they want to do with their lives.
