EDITOR’S LETTER
he best of the best. Canada’s Best Managed Companies awards
have celebrated the pinnacle of managerial achievement in Ca-
nadian business since 1993, but given the circumstances we’ve
Tall faced this year, perhaps this year’s winners are the creme de
la creme.
This year’s award recipients—as discussed in this issue—had to ebb and
flow and react like no other time, and have a lot to teach us all. This month,
we interviewed the two Canadian Co-Leads on the awards about how Co-
vid 19 forced companies to pivot outwardly and focus on health and well-
ness internally to not only survive, but thrive this year.
The degree of innovation made us proud of the Canadian business com-
munity this year. In this month’s issue we highlight businesses that are
celebrating 20- and 30-year anniversaries, as well as one of Alberta’s big-
gest unions.
BEHIND THIS MASK,
YOU’RE LEADING THE WAY We are also excited to feature an in-depth profile on the new Heartland
Petrochemical Complex being built in Strathcona County, Alberta. Known
TOWARD THE FUTURE as the HPC, it will be one of the world’s lowest greenhouse gas emitting
polypropylene producing facilities and North America’s first integrated
OF CONSTRUCTION. propane dehydrogenation and polypropylene facility. What will this mean?
Less transportation of goods in the production of the material, lower pro-
duction costs, and 16,000 direct and indirect full-time jobs in the province.
Innovation taking flight.
