EDITOR’S LETTER
his month we are proud to feature our interview with Harry Fla-
herty, President at Qikiqtaalik Corporation (QC), the economic
arm responsible to strengthen the social and economic well-be-
T ing of Nunavut and the 15,500 Inuit it represents.
The QC is pioneering clean energy in the North. In 2017, QC established
Nunavut Nukkiksautiit Corporation (NNC), Nunavut’s first 100% Inuit-owned
renewable energy developer—a milestone for clean energy in the north.
Flaherty believes renewable energy development in Nunavut must be fun-
damentally driven by Inuit and communities and is making great headway
to ensure this happens.
“As Inuit, we often feel the effects of climate change more intensely than
BEHIND THIS MASK, others,” Flaherty tells Business Elite Canada. “With ice thawing earlier and
earlier every year, it is becoming increasingly difficult to access traditional
YOU’RE LEADING THE WAY areas for hunting and fishing throughout the year.”
TOWARD THE FUTURE We hope you enjoy this issue as much as we did making it.
