ften clouded by Ontario and Quebec, Western Canada is
quickly gaining exposure with its growing economy. Prai-
rie cities, such as Saskatoon, Calgary, Regina, Edmonton,
and Abbotsford, are among the leading cities that are doubling in
growth this year and among the Canadian cities with the highest
Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Saskatchewan and Alberta are be-
ing driven by the construction industry which is expected to ex-
pand 4.1%, with an increase in housing projects as well as non-
residential developments.
On the list of major projects the provinces are housing is the $514
million enlargement of the Queen Elizabeth Power Station in Sas-
katchewan, and the Foothills Medical Centre in Alberta, who is still
recovering after their devastating flood.
Many businesses are making the choice to expand to these regions
that will see positive ramifications in the construction and oil and
gas industry in the coming years – increasing employment oppor-
tunities and promoting economic stability.
