OH, CANADA!
TURNS
147 YEARS OLD
On July 1
st
, 1867, the Confederation of
four Canadian provinces created our country.
We have grown steadily and now include 10
provinces and three territories, including the
largely Inuit territory of Nunavut, a land mass
almost three size of Western Europe. Canada
continues to strengthen its ties with the North,
as it takes on the Chair of the Arctic Council.
So how do Canadians rejoice this monumental
day?
Charlottetown made the biggest bang with
an estimated 10, 000 fireworks which put on
a 12 minute show. Ottawa displayed their ap-
preciation by shooting fireworks across the
Ottawa River. Winnipeg showed their unique
spirit in an impressive formation of the hu-
man flag coordinated between 2, 500 people.
Despite the furious weather and rain, Canadi-
ans prove their resilience and the love for the
country. Certain parts of Manitoba and Sas-
katchewan were flooded due to the weather,
but the provinces were able to proceed with
most of their fireworks.
With photos and well wishes flooding Ca-
nadians’ social media platform, even New York
City showed their love for us by displaying the
Canadian flag on the Empire State building.
With the Canadian spirit live and stronger
than ever, we look on to the upcoming year
with optimism. “With glowing hearts we see
thee rise, the True North strong and free.”
