From new home construction to pipelines to enclosed trailers, our latest issue travels from the west to the east in
search of some of Canada’s most innovative businesses.
Despite the challenges of dropping oil prices and a turbulent economy, new home construction is still going strong
in the west. We spoke to two of the top builders in Alberta, who are continuing to focus on quality construction and
customer satisfaction as the pillars of their organizations.
Pacesetter Homes in Edmonton is poised to introduce an exciting new project this year that will change the look of
some of the city’s communities. Morrison Homes, which has earned the Canada’s Best Managed Companies designa-
tion, is balancing future growth with service to their customers who have purchased Morrison residences in both
Edmonton and Calgary.
Further east, we spoke to the two founders of Montreal-based HC Bisson, who are gaining a reputation for custom and
ready-to-build home designs modified to suit each homeowner’s style. The innovative builders aren’t afraid to veer
away from the original plan in an effort to create something unique for their clients.
It’s hard to imagine not having access to water. But when BHP Billiton decided to open a potash mine in Saskatch-
ewan, getting water to the site was one of the first major considerations. SaskWater, the province’s commercial Crown
water utility, took on their largest project to date when they signed on to lead the creation of the $141-million, 94-ki-
lometre pipeline endeavour. Readers will also find an article this month that highlights a growing trend in piping that
is proving to be more cost-effective and easier to handle than traditional steel. Custom Fiberglass Contractors has an
alternative that is causing many companies to rethink their choice in piping material.
Finally, in what is known as Ontario’s own Chemical Valley, a successful specialty piping and instrumentation dis-
tributor has an eye on future growth. Turning their focus to the highest levels of customer service is one strategy;
finding their next specialty product that makes the industry sit up and take notice is another.
We hope you enjoy this mix of cross-country, commercial versus industrial profiles that showcase the diversity of
businesses across Canada. Next month, we’ll bring you even more of the stories that highlight why it makes sense to
do business in this country.
