CN and Unifor reach tentative agreement
CN has withdrawn its lockout notice after reach-
ing a tentative labour agreement with the Unifor
union representing 4,800 CN members. Details
of the last-minute agreement are being with-
held pending a ratification vote with results of
the vote expected to be released later in March.
Claude Mongeau, president and chief executive
officer of CN, said: "We are very pleased that the
company and union were able to find common
ground on a tentative new labour contract. This
settlement forecloses the prospect of a poten-
tial labour disruption that would have harmed
CN's employees, its customers and the Canadian
economy."
The union represents CN employees in four bar-
gaining units — clerical/intermodal, mechanical,
CNTL truck owner-operators and excavator-oper-
ators.
CN, Canada’s national railway, transports more
than $250 billion worth of goods annually for a
range of business sectors, including resource
products and manufactured goods. The network
spans Canada and the mid-U.S. Source: CN
