There are a few things that I particularly enjoy about writing articles fea-
tured each month in Business Elite Canada magazine. Not only do I have an
opportunity to chat with business leaders across Canada and get a sneak
peek inside their organizations, but the sheer diversity of companies that we
feature means that each interview — and each issue — offers something a
little different.
This is especially true for our July issue. We’ve put the spotlight on a tre-
mendous variety of sectors, from agriculture to communications to fitness.
I thought I would share a few of the interesting facts I learned during my
conversations with these company leaders; some are serious and thought-
provoking while others make for great conversation starters!
1. It takes 21 days to create a new habit.
This is the philosophy that Markus Lanz, CEO of Wynn Fitness,
follows to help clients establish a healthy and successful fitness regime. If they can stay motivated past
those first few weeks, it’s far more likely that they’ll achieve results. Sounds like a philosophy that could be
applied to many aspects of our lives.
2. M ntal health issues are a serious concern for first responders.
Though the risk of suicide among
people working in the military or emergency services field is gaining attention, there is still a long way to go
in terms of prevention and treatment. Boot Campaign Canada (#BootsOn) is working hard to raise aware-
ness.
3. Drones save lives.
There’s no question that there’s a negative connotation surrounding the miniature
aircraft. But 4Front Robotics explains how their unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are taking the place of
people in certain risky situations, like the inspection of storage tanks filledwith potentially dangerous gases.
4. Verbal judo trump physical force.
For Kien Hoang, president of Interforce International Security, us-
ing psychological training to diffuse a tense situation is a critical skill in his industry. Putting brains before
brawn is crucial.
5. There really are three farmers.
Not, it’s not just a catchy business name. Saskatchewan-based Three
Farmers, makers of unique products like camelina oil and roasted chickpeas, was founded by three neigh-
bouring farmers. Their story, and their products, are both fascinating.
That’s just a small sample of what you’ll find inside our July issue. We hope you enjoy this month’s look at
businesses across Canada. There’s even more to come in August!
